Aika Matemu is Partner with Dalberg Design in Nairobi. She brings over 15 years of expertise in user experience design, digital technologies, global public health and social entrepreneurism, with an extensive background in social impact and innovation. She has dedicated her career to designing and building innovations that impact social change.

 Aika’s design career has been grounded in human-centered design (HCD) methods, with a focus on designing digital technologies that create channels for underserved populations to access quality health care. In her most recent position as the Africa Regional Design Manager with Medic Mobile, she grew a one-person design team to a multi-disciplinary team of 11 designers across the Africa region. Her work has been rooted in building capacity for service design and aligning design structures with global design frameworks. 

Aika has led design engagements across Africa, including in Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Mali, Togo and Madagascar. Highlights include a mobile savings product for women to save for their pregnancy delivery, a maternity mobile health SMS service that guides women through the course of their pregnancy and a digital service for men to participate in reproductive health conversations.

Aika has a Post Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics and a Bachelor of Science in Computational Biochemistry from Carleton University. She is an East Africa Acumen Fellow.
