A different approach to tackling global warming A different approach to tackling global warmingA leading international agency was looking for innovative, non-traditional ways to address environmental and social issues in developing countries. The organization recognized that it needed to draw on private sector partners and resources. The Dalberg team worked closely with the client to identify a range of models, and helped the client select the most suitable option. This model involved forging a long-term partnership with a leading financial entity whose business was affected by the same issues that the client was seeking to address - climate change and biodiversity loss. Together, our client and its partner would launch a new program to enable companies and consumers to take greater responsibility for their impact on the environment through CO2 emission off-set programs. Dalberg worked with the client to close the partnership, develop the concept and business plan, raise start-up funds, identify potential partners, and launch the program. As a result of this project, the client has been able to create corporate awareness about the climate change and biodiversity loss issues and is currently in the process of mobilizing resources to its programs. Launching a new global e-education initiativeDalberg was asked to help develop and launch a United Nations-sponsored initiative to promote the effective use of information technologies in schools in developing countries. Over seven months, the Dalberg team worked with the Executive Director to manage the full range of tasks and problem-solving necessary to establish the organisation, and took the lead in two vital areas. First, Dalberg led development of a business plan and formal proposals to secure funding from the founding governments. Second, Dalberg managed recruitment of the core team of senior staff – from drafting job descriptions and adverts to designing CV reviews and interviews to developing compensation packages – which result in the hiring of the most of the senior management team, including a Director of Global Partnerships & Communications, Country Programme Facilitators and Specialists in Education and Technology. |
